It is important to decide what type of ceremony you would like. In order to help you with this decision you can request a free consultation with no obligations from one of our planners.
The most common options chosen for couples where neither the bride or groom has Portuguese nationality and/or is not a permanent resident in Portugal are the religious blessing wedding ceremonies or the wedding celebration ceremonies.
A civil wedding is a contract that is bound to the laws of the country where the contract is issued. Therefore we advise that the legal part of your wedding be carried out in your home country. You should also be aware that in Portugal the civil wedding is a reading of data and law articles that you are obliged to fulfill after entering into this contract. The civil ceremony is therefore very business-like and in the past has been found to be cold and detached. Recently though some of the registrars have started to be more friendly and charming during the ceremonies. A further important consideration is the language, as everything will have to be interpreted and this often hinders the flow of the ceremony.
Regardless of all of this, it is still possible to have a legally binding wedding in Portugal even if you are not Portuguese.
