To order your wedding flowers you will need to define various details, such as colour scheme, style of bouquet and arrangements, budget available, etc. Ideally we would like to see photos of the arrangements and the bouquets you would like. The florist can match the photograph or advise on alternatives should certain flower types not be available.
Some details to consider
Brides bouquet: the brides bouquet will be an important item on your wedding day. You will need to decide on style, flower types and colour scheme. All other bouquets and arrangements can be made to harmonize with the brides bouquet.
Bouquet style:
- Posy – traditional round bouquet with a ribbon tied around the stems
- Cascading bouquet - flowers cascading loosely
- Arm bouquet - bouquet to be held laying in the left arm, typical would be bouquets where the flowers are arranged in non- symmetrical ways and vary in height.
Flower types: seasonal and national flowers will turn out less expensive, Some flowers that are always available are: roses, lilies, gerber daisies and orchids.
Calla Lilies are great for May and June weddings as they are nationally available and there it’s a big supply at this time.
Hydrangeas are i.e. a typical flower for the Azores in May. The mountains are covered with the bright blue of these flowers. And in general they have there time also around may, june and make beautiful flowers for wedding arrangements.
Please ask your wedding planner for advise for any specific ideas you have.
Colours: please define your colour request to the detail, i.e. pastel pink or dark red or bright yellow etc, Photos are always good!
You may also send a picture of you and of the dress you will be wearing. Bridesmaid bouquet: These are usually similar to brides bouquet just a little smaller and a little less elaborated. Please define what you want and how many are needed Tossing bouquet: Please advise if you would also like a tossing bouquet. Boutonnières: You may want boutonnières for the groom, the Best Man, the bride’s father, the groom’s father, both grandfathers, ushers, the ring bearer and other special guests. Corsages: You may want corsages for the bride’s mother, groom’s mother, both grandmothers and other special guests. Flowers for page boy and flower girl: If you have a flower girl you may want a basket with flower petals or you may want a little bouquet for her. For the page boy you may want a small boutonnière. Please advice on age of child/children. Flowers for hair dos: You may want a few extra flowers to use for the hair of the bride and the brides maids, the flower girls might like flowers in their hair. Flowers for the ceremony: for churches you may want altar arrangements, side altar arrangements, standing arrangements for the altar area, pew flowers, an arch or flower pillars at the entrance. It s best to ask a local florist who knows the church for their advice on what would be appropriate considering space and also amount of guests attending the ceremony. Sometimes there will be more than one ceremony at the church and it might be possible to combine the flower order with another couple and share costs.
For a ceremony at a venue you may want table arrangement for ceremony table, flower arch or pillars or decoration for wooden stand or gazebo, pew flowers etc.
Flowers for the reception area: you may want table arrangements for the reception tables. There are many options on table decoration and it’s good to get an overall idea on what will be on the tables in order to compose a harmonic composition. Other items might be table cards and table card holders, candles or chandeliers, table confetti or scattered flower petals, deco material such as chiffon fabric etc.
Gift flowers: you may want some bouquets to say thank you for example to mother of bride and groom.
